QR Codes, sometimes known as Quick Response Codes, is a type of matrix code used to store and transmit data. The QR Code is a two-dimensional matrix code in which it can contain information up to thousands of alphanumeric characters. The Barcode, unlike the QR Code, is a one-dimensional matrix that can only contain 20 digits.

The QR Code is a great way for small businesses to advertise their services and reach potential customers. Because the production process is not lengthy, all data may be documented in detail. Users can browse and interact with digital content from websites to enterprises. To scan this QR code, simply use your smartphone.

Scanning QR Codes has become an essential feature of smartphones these days. We all use QR codes for so many purposes such as sharing URLs, transferring data, and other stuff. Scanning QR code is one of the most used features on smartphones because it makes sharing so much easier than we could’ve ever imagined.

Now you might be wondering how to scan a QR code on an Android phone or how to scan a QR code on an iPhone. The truth is that almost any smartphone nowadays includes this functionality as it has become more of a necessity than anything else. So, how do we scan these QR codes? Let’s find out.

How to Scan QR Code on Android

Step 1

Check to see whether your Android phone can read QR codes. Not all Android phones have this function yet, so you may need to take a few extra actions before scanning.

The Google Assistant can recognize QR codes, too. Tap the Google Lens icon at the bottom right after long-pressing on the Home icon or saying “OK, Google.” Bixby can also identify QR codes if you have a Samsung phone with Bixby capabilities.

With Google Pixels, you may also use the viewfinder to instantly open the Camera app and scan QR codes. When it detects a code, a tappable link will appear. You may also need to install an app. We recommend the QR Code Reader, which is a convenient and highly efficient solution.

Step 2

Start scanning by opening your preferred scanning app. Open the app, whether it’s Bixby, QR Code Reader, Samsung Optical Reader, the Camera app (on Google’s Pixel phones), or whatever option is present on your Android phone.

The app will offer you the choice to use “scanning” mode if it does not open up to the scanning window via the phone’s camera.

Step 3

Ensure that you have the QR code in the right position. Place the QR code directly above or in front of the lens so that the corners are visible inside the scanning window’s edges. Once the code has been entered, hold the phone steadily as it searches for it.

Step 4

Select the best option. The QR code should then be displayed as a pop-up that allows you to take any action based on it.

The pop-up window will describe what will happen if the code is attempting to direct you to a certain website, add a contact to your phone book, start an app, or download a file. Select the option that is most appropriate for you if you believe the source, believe that the QR code is safe, and understand what it will accomplish.

How to Scan QR Code on iPhone

Step 1

Open the camera app on your phone. There’s no need to download a separate QR code scanning software (unless you want to) if you have an Apple iPhone because the camera app already includes built-in QR code reading capabilities. There’s also a direct QR code reader in the Control Center since iOS 12, so you can access it even faster.

If you don’t see the QR code icon in your Control Center on iOS, go to the Settings app > Control Center > Customize Controls. Then, from the More Controls menu, select QR Code Reader and tap the green “+” icon to add it. Now, you can get to it right from the iOS Control Center which you may access by swiping down from the top right of the screen, whenever you need it.

Step 2

Align your phone so the QR code appears in the digital viewfinder. The QR code should be automatically recognized by the camera app. The best angle and distance, of course, can assist this.

The QR code does not need to cover the entire screen, but all four corners should be viewable. If your camera is too close or too far away, the app may have difficulties recognizing the code, so a straight-on approach is ideal. The shakes can be minimized by utilizing image stabilization technology, but don’t move too much so the code square is visible.

Step 3

Press the notification code. If you’re using the QR Code Reader in the Control Center to scan a QR code, it will automatically launch the app or website that has been associated with that code.

However, if you open the iOS Camera app and scan the QR code using your iPhone, no action will be taken. A notification bar will appear at the top of the screen, notifying you that the QR code has been understood, usually with a helpful short explanation of what the QR code will perform. Tap on the notification bar to launch the code activity if you believe that it is safe.
